About Smiggin Holes

Smiggin Holes, affectionately referred to simply as 'Smiggs', is one of four resort areas that make up Perisher Ski Resort. Smiggs could be considered a 'resort within a resort' with its own carpark providing direct access to lifts, accommodation, and food and beverage options. In the middle of the season when snow conditions permit, Smiggs is connected to Perisher's three other resort areas via ski and snowboard trails.

Smiggs is also home to Perisher's best beginner terrain, making it the perfect location for first-timers, beginners, and families with small children. Perisher Snowsports School operates out of Smiggin Holes, providing daily first-timer lessons for those new to the snow or who would like a refresher on the very basics.

Did you know? The term 'Smiggin Holes' is of Scottish origin and refers to the holes left in the ground by cattle licking up rock salt!

Ski & Snowboard Terrain at Smiggin Holes

Smiggs is the perfect spot for beginners as it is protected from harsher weather due to its location in a natural 'snow bowl', but despite being known for its beginner terrain, Smiggs is also a great pick for intermediate skier and snowboarders due to its multiple blue runs.

Harry’s and Herman’s – The Place to Start!

Harry's and Herman's isn't technically a run—it’s the area surrounding the beginner carpet, designed to get first-timers on their feet and making their first turns. It’s the perfect place to take a lesson, build confidence, and get ready to explore more of Smiggins and beyond. The name comes from two old rope tows that used to sit here, each named after legendary ski instructors—Harry and Herman. When the tows were replaced with a carpet lift, the names stuck, and now the whole area carries on their legacy.

Wood Run – A Taste of Tree Skiing & Boarding

Ever wondered what it feels like to ride through the trees? Wood Run gives beginners a taste of just that—gently winding through a beautiful, sheltered area. You can access it from the Hume T-Bar or the Kaaten Triple Chair, and it’s also a great route over to the Captain Cook J-Bar.

Plummer’s – A Warm-Up Favourite

Named after Dennis Plummer, a Perisher legend who dedicated 27 years to the resort—many of them as the Area Manager of Smiggins—Plummer’s is a fantastic intermediate run. It’s perfect for warming up early in the morning and can be accessed via the Wills T-Bar.

.Blanchy’s – Smooth, Wide & Beginner-Friendly

Located right off the Burke T-bar, Blanchy’s is one of the most welcoming runs in Smiggins. Its wide-open spaces make it a favourite for beginners and intermediates looking for a smooth ride back down to the village. This run honors Craig Blanchard, a long-time member of Perisher’s grooming team and former Grooming Manager. Given his dedication to keeping the slopes in top shape, it’s only fitting that one of the best-groomed runs in Smiggins carries his name.

The Cornice – A Thrill Seeker’s Playground

If you’re looking for a challenge, The Cornice is where you’ll find it. Named after the natural snow formations that hang over mountain ridges, this run delivers an exciting drop-in and, on a powder day, some seriously thrilling turns. You can access The Cornice via the Link T-Bar—just be ready for an adrenaline rush!

Smiggin Holes is the perfect place to delight in the magic of learning to ski or snowboard alongside one of Perisher's experienced and friendly instructors. First-Timer ski and snowboard lessons and packages for both kids and adults are available every day of the week out of Smiggin Holes.
