FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
2017 NSW SNOWBOARD INTERSCHOOLS TRAINING SCHOLARSHIPS AWARDED
NSW Snowboard, in conjunction with Perisher, SnowSports ACT and Rob Kneller Youth Foundation, has awarded 28 successful applicants the NSW Snowboard Interschools Training Scholarship for 2017. The scholarship consists of subsidised cost to participate in the 2017 Perisher Interschools Holiday Camp held in the winter season, and offers scholarship recipients a 50% fee reduction of the training program. The interest in the scholarship from the community was extremely pleasing, with over 50 applications received during the application period.
The Perisher Interschools Holiday Camp is a three day training program that focuses on a range of a range of ski and snowboard disciplines. Children aged 7 years to 14 years learn progressive techniques to improve their skills before the NSW Interschools competitions throughout the season, whilst improving their skiing or snowboarding ability across Perisher’s four resort areas of Perisher Valley, Blue Cow, Smiggin Holes and Guthega. The camp will run throughout the NSW/ACT school holidays to provide children with a consistent and targeted training schedule, and allow them to have a great time exploring the mountain with other children.
One of the ways to increase participation is to offer training opportunities to younger riders to give them the confidence to compete at Interschools and other snowboarding events during the season. The NSW Snowboard Interschools Training Scholarship gives beginners a great opportunity to develop snowboard skills within a supportive environment at Perisher.
Rob Dickson, Chair of the NSW Snowboard Committee said “We are really happy with the level of interest we received for our NSW Snowboard Interschools Training Scholarship. We received over 50 applications within a couple of weeks.” Members of the community saw great value in the scholarship and the possibility of receiving financial support from NSW Snowboard. Georgia Brose, aged 13 and Lachlan Brose, aged 10, are two successful scholarship recipients. They said “We are very excited and can’t wait to get to Perisher this year and are really looking forward to the snowboard training and race program. Thanks for helping us work towards achieving our goals. We really appreciate it.” NSW Snowboard is committed to continue supporting young people in the community in snowsports training and development.
The Perisher Interschool Holiday Camp programs were held on 26-28 June, 1-3 July and 8-10 July. For more information about the program visit Perisher’s website. For more information about the NSW Snowboard Interschools Training Scholarship visit the NSW SnowSports website.
